A Davenport couple has been charged in connection with a theft that involved two children, Davenport police said.

Camesha Patrice Anderson, 30, and Timothy Dale, 35, both of 1131 E. 39th St., No. 25. were being held late Sunday in Scott County Jail on charges of fourth-degree theft and contributing/using juveniles to commit an offense, police said.

Anderson's children, who are 8 and 10, allegedly picked up merchandise in the J.C. Penney Co. Inc. store at NorthPark Mall, Davenport, while the adults distracted store employees, police said. After the children picked up the merchandise, they placed it in a J.C. Penney bag they apparently brought into the store hidden under a coat, police said. The group left the store without paying for $370.80 worth of clothing, police said. Among the items were two pairs of jeans, socks, a sweater and four pairs of shoes, police said.

In addition to the other charges, Dale also was charged with interference with official acts after he ran away when he was approached by a uniformed police officer who wanted to speak to him about the theft. Dale ran about one-half mile before he was apprehended, police said.

Anderson was being held on $14,950 bond, and Dale was being held on $15,275 bond.
