While visiting the lighting ceremony at Mt. Rushmore, I watched something that was good for all America. After the lighting ceremony the presenter asked that all U.S. veterans come forward and be recognized for their service to our country.
In an arena of 5,000 people there were hundreds of U.S. veterans. They received hugs, handshakes and kisses from their family members as they went to join the other U.S. veterans on stage for the presentation. During this period there was a silence in the arena as the other vacation sightseers, like my family, watched this great display of patriotism. I stood speechless and had goose bumps.
While attending a wedding recently, the DJ asked for all the U.S. Veterans and current service personnel to stand and be recognized. These people all received a warm round of applause for the duty to America. They were then given the permission to dance with their dates first. I stood speechless and had goose bumps.
My sons play baseball on Korthaus Field at North Little League. We were there on the dedication day to honor Davenport’s hometown hero, Marine Sgt. Bradley S. Korthaus who gave his life so my boys could play baseball with their teammates in America. I stood speechless and had goose bumps.
I challenge all emcees of all events to honor the U.S. Veterans and current service members attending the event. The acknowledgement is needed to show appreciation and gratitude for their personal sacrifice to America.
