Two men accused of pulling two people out of a car on West Locust Street early Wednesday, beating them and stealing their car, were arrested a short time later and charged with robbery.

Arrested were Kevin J. Johnson, 20, of 5600 Jersey Ridge Road, Apt. 8, Davenport, and Robert Richardson Jr., 18, of 12258 225th St., Donahue, Iowa. Each are charged with first-degree robbery. Both men were in the Scott County Jail on Wednesday afternoon, Johnson on $32,000 bond, and Richardson on $32,500 bond.

The men, with a third man and a woman in the car, stopped ahead of a second vehicle at the intersection of Locust and Grand Avenue, when the three men jumped out of the car and pulled the two people from the car behind them, according to police reports. The third man, who is still at large, jumped into the car and drove away, while Johnson and Richardson hit the victims with baseball bats.

Johnson and Richardson then returned to their car where the woman was still waiting and drove away, according to police. The two men were arrested a short time later, identified by the victims, who suffered only minor injuries in the attack.

The woman was questioned by police officers who determined she didn’t have any prior knowledge of what the men were planning, police said.
