(Updated: 4:07 p.m.) An emerging Republican presidential hopeful made a stop in the Quad-Cities today, calling himself the only true “conservative candidate” in the field.
Former Virginia Gov. Jim Gilmore said he does not waffle or change his stance on issues — and that includes his support of the right to bear firearms, opposition to abortion and strong interest in strengthening U.S. security.
Gilmore spoke during a small event today at the Steeplegate Inn in Davenport, where he urged attendees to support his candidacy in the Quad-Cities.
“Our goal here is to seek leadership — then I can get things rolling here in Iowa,” Gilmore said. “There’s still plenty of time to do this, and Iowa is key. It’s significant.”
He also served as attorney general of that state and is a U.S. Army veteran. He is former chairman of the U.S. Commission on Terrorism and serves on the board of directors of the National Rifle Association, he said.
