LOUISA COUNTY — A transformer failure and fire shut down MidAmerican Energy Co.’s Louisa Generating Station that is located in rural Louisa County near Muscatine, a company spokesman said Wednesday.

The station was off-line late Wednesday, said company spokesman Allan Urlis.

“We do not know what caused the transformer to fail,” he said. “There were no injuries, and all personnel at the plant are accounted for.”

A transformer outside the plant failed and caught fire, he said.

No power outages were reported, Urlis said, adding that there are several generating plants and facilities that can pick up the slack should one go down.
