TODAY: (Updated: 1:42 a.m.) Two people were injured in a motor vehicle accident that occurred at 12:45 a.m. in the 700 block of Kirkwood Boulevard.

Davenport Police shut down both lanes of Kirkwood Blvd. for about an hour to investigate the cause of the crash.

Police said a Pontiac Trans Am was westbound on Kirkwood when the driver of the vehicle lost control at about 801 Kirkwood. The vehicle crossed the median, taking down a light pole in its path.

The Trans Am continued westbound in the eastbound lanes and struck a Dodge Intrepid that was parked on the street. The impact pushed the Intrepid into a parked Chevrolet Lumina.

Davenport firefighters had to use the Jaws of Life to cut both the male driver and female passenger out of the Trans Am. Each victim was taken to Genesis Medical Center-East Rusholme Street, Davenport, for treatment. Their conditions were not available early this morning.
