I just finished reading an interview in Rolling Stone Magazine with Bill Moyers. As I read the interview, I was so moved by what I was reading that I couldn’t stop thinking about our country and what has become of our system of government.
It is my belief that one of the reasons our system of government is failing so many is our belief in labeling and aligning oneself with a political party. As the gap between the have and have-nots increases, only the haves run the political system and the people lose their voice. As a result, ideologues take our government hostage, further hampering the proper functioning of the system, bad things in and bad things out. Increasingly, leaders shelter themselves from criticism under the guise they will not be influenced by polls
I implore the electorate to vote and participate no matter what political leaning or economic standing you currently have, but rather vote your heart. Don’t be selfish with your vote. Think about others. What is right for you right now may not necessarily be right for all of us and, more importantly, those following us in the years to come. Reject politicians who are not forward thinking. This is the only way to change our country and sustain our democracy.
