A Moline man was killed in a traffic accident over the holiday weekend on Interstate 74 in the Indianapolis area.
Carl Swanson, 77, died when an eastbound driver crossed the center median and Swanson’s Ford pickup truck collided with that man’s Ford Escape.
Brownsburg, Ind., police said the accident happened shortly before 7 p.m. Sunday in the westbound lanes of I-74 near mile marker 66.
The other driver, Dereck Kamwesa of Westerville, Ohio, was in the passing lane when a semi moved to the left without seeing him, police said. Kamwesa swerved and hit his brakes, causing him to cross the median and go airborne before colliding with Swanson’s vehicle.
Swanson was declared dead at an Indianapolis hospital. Police said Kamwesa could not immediately recall what had happened.
Brownsburg police said Tuesday that officers were following up on the accident, and while there was no immediate indication that alcohol may have been involved, they were waiting for test results.
