CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa — The Swing of the Quad-Cities lost for the first time in more than a week Thursday night as their seven-game winning streak ended with a 7-3 loss to the Cedar Rapids Kernels at Veterans Memorial Stadium.

Quad-Cities (34-25) fell back into a third-place tie with the Kernels as the teams race to reach one of the top two spots in the Western Division with only 10 games remaining before the All-Star break.

Cedar Rapids (33-24) never trailed, hitting three solo home runs. The Kernels’ Ryan Mount led off the bottom of the first with a triple to right-center. Mount scored on a sacrifice fly by Chris Pettit, and later in the inning Matt Sweeney singled home Mark Trumbo for a 2-0 lead.

Quad-Cities trailed 3-0 when it got on the board in the third. Daryl Jones singled with one out and raced to third on a base hit by Donovan Solano. That put him in position to score a pitch later, when Brandon Buckman added his league-high 50th RBI with a sacrifice fly to center.
