Many of us find ourselves wavering among the many terrific prospects competing to be our next president. Lately however, I’m finding New Mexico’s Gov. Bill Richardson a fascinating candidate with enormous intelligence and abilities. So did 70 percent of his constituents who voted him to two terms. They liked his ability to whittle nearly $23 million from the budget. They admire the improvements his skills bring to New Mexico.
Ex- President Bill Clinton praised Richardson’s efforts to help him pass his economic plan to create millions of jobs, which led to the first balanced budget in 30 years. His 15-year congressional experience helped him learn the ropes to get things done as he learned to operate on the fast track.
Because of Gov. Richardson’s keen interest, President Clinton asked him to be Secretary of Energy. His knowledge made New Mexico the first clean energy state! As ambassador to the UN, he met with world leaders. Add to the list chairmanship of the Democratic Governors Association and nomination for the Nobel Peace Prize — four times!
We should give serious consideration to his detailed plan to remove ourselves from Iraq. As president, his experience, intelligence and diplomatic executive skills would make him an excellent negotiator for this difficult task. Seems to me, this guy has it all! New poll surveys find him moving up. I may not be wavering anymore. Let’s keep watching.
