Alcoa to supply armor plate for Army vehicle
TODAY: (Updated 11:40 a.m.) Alcoa’s North American Rolled Products has been awarded a $31.7 million contract to supply aluminum armor plate for the U.S. Army’s new MRAP armored vehicle program.
The plate will be produced at Alcoa Davenport Works in Riverdale, Iowa. Most of the material will be delivered to the U.S. Army TACOM facility at the Rock Island Arsenal.
Alcoa will deliver more than 1 million pounds of aluminum each month during the contract. Deliveries will begin in November and run through June, 2008.
“This is a win-win for the Quad-Cities,” said Mark Vrablec, the director of manufacturing at Alcoa Davenport Works. “This is a product we can produce and ship just across the river for work that will be done right here at the Rock Island Arsenal.”
Harry Kiskaddon, the commercial director for aerospace at Alcoa’s North American Rolled Products, said the defense market is an important part of Alcoa’s business plan. “Our coordination of Alcoa’s global plate supply continues to support our leadership role in the aerospace, defense and space markets.”
