Residents can call Rock Island to recycle

The City of Rock Island is now taking requests for its voluntary curbside recycling program, which will begin in the spring if they get at least 1,500 customers.

Residents interested in signing up for the program should call the public works department at (309) 732-2200. It’s also possible to sign up on the city’s Web site at rigov.org or by emailing to pubworksmail@rigov.org.

The program will cost $36 per year per subscriber. Each subscriber will receive a 48 gallon cart that will be provided by the city.

All recyclables will be placed in one cart, including plastics, tin, aluminum, cardboard, newspapers, phonebooks and brown paper bags. Glass will not be collected.

Every two weeks Midland-Davis Company of Moline will pick up the recyclables.
