CLINTON, Iowa — For the second time in two weeks, a Clinton police officer has been taken to the hospital after a car crash while on patrol.

Officer Roger Schumacher, 26, is the latest officer to be injured.

He was driving his patrol car, a 2005 Ford Crown Victoria, westbound on 7th Avenue South approaching South 9th Street at 5:19 p.m. Wednesday when he was struck in the intersection by a northbound 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by Evan Kenney, 16, of Clinton, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Department.

Schumacher was taken by ambulance to Mercy Medical Center-Clinton, where he was treated and released. Kenney was cited for failure to yield.

On Oct. 6, Sgt. Terry St. Ores, 50, was on patrol and westbound on South Bluff Boulevard at 11:09 a.m. when his car was struck on the passenger’s side by a 2002 Jeep Liberty driven by Aaron Sass, 19, of Clinton, who was attempting to turn right onto South Bluff from Briarwood St., according to the Iowa State Patrol.

St. Ores also was treated and released at Mercy. Sass was cited for failure to yield and having an open container.
