Iowa Democratic Party Chairman Scott Brennan is recommending that his party choose a Jan. 3 caucus date, which would be the same day Republicans have chosen.
The party’s central committee will hold a conference call Sunday night to vote on the proposal, spokeswoman Carrie Giddins said.
She stressed that Brennan is merely recommending Jan. 3, and any reports that the date already has been chosen are incorrect.
Iowa Republicans decided last week to move their caucuses from Jan. 14 to Jan. 3.
Leaders from both parties have said there are logistical reasons to hold both caucuses on the same night, but top Democrats have not yet committed to change the date.
Gov. Chet Culver, a Democrat, said last week that the process might take some time because the state party wants to make sure it’s on the same page with the Democratic National Committee.
He said the party will have news “in the coming days and weeks” about the schedule.
