UPDATE: The Quad-City River Bandits season-opening game with the Wisconsin Timber Rattlers was postponed Thursday by inclement weather.
The Bandits will now open the season Friday at 7 p.m. against Wisconsin.
Thursday’s game will be made up as part of a double-header Saturday night.
EARLIER STORY: The Quad-Cities Midwest League baseball team is back in black tonight against Wisconsin. The new Quad-City River Bandits open their 2008 season tonight at 7 at Modern Woodmen Park, the former John O’Donnell Stadium, on the Davenport riverfront.
“Out” is the Swing of the Quad-Cities. “In” is the familiar River Bandits moniker. The new owners of the ball club held a nickname contest last year, and the River Bandits with their black and red colors was the choice of Quad-City fans.
The St. Louis Cardinals’ first round draft pick, Pete Kozma, will play shortstop for the Cards’ A affiliated minor league team.
The National Weather Service says there is an 80 percent chance of rain, after 4 p.m., with new rainfall amounts between a tenth and quarter of an inch possible.
Tickets for the game still are available. Gates open at 5:30 p.m.
