Clinton man faces multiple felonies in February incident
CLINTON, Iowa — A Clinton man has been arrested on multiple felony charges stemming from a February incident in when he allegedly assaulted a man, rammed his truck into the car of a man pursuing him and eluded police before crashing his truck on U.S. 30.
Shane Lee Ketelsen, 29, was charged Thursday with three counts of going armed with intent and one count each of willful injury, second-degree criminal mischief, eluding and second-offense OWI in connection with events that took place Feb. 24 in Clinton, according to court records.
The events began when Ketelsen allegedly came up behind Brian Dunn while Dunn was returning to his apartment and struck him with a tire iron, according to court records. Dunn needed 13 staples to close a wound in his head, according to court records.
When Ketelsen attempted to flee the scene in his pickup truck, two men followed after him while talking to emergency dispatchers on the phone to update police on Ketelsen’s location, according to court records.
While being pursued by the two men, Ketelsen allegedly rammed his truck into the pursuing vehicle twice. When Clinton police began to pursue Ketelsen in the 1800 block of Lincolnway, Ketelsen refused to stop and led police on a pursuit along westbound U.S. 30 that reached speeds up to 90 mph, according to court records.
Ketelsen lost control of his truck and rolled it on U.S. 30 just east of the Low Moor exit. A blood test showed Ketelsen’s blood alcohol level was 0.12. The legal limit is .08.
A preliminary hearing has been scheduled for April 15. Going armed with intent, second-degree criminal mischief and eluding are all Class D felonies, punishable by a maximum of five years in prison. Willful injury is a Class C felony, punishable by a maximum of 10 years in prison.
