Good morning, Quad-Cities. At 5:34 a.m., it’s 65 degrees under partly cloudy skies with 84 percent humidity. The National Weather Service is calling for a 90 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms today with a high near 70 degrees. Tonight will be breezy with a low around 39 degrees. For the weekend, we can expect sunny skies with a high of 56 degrees on Saturday, and a chance on showers on Sunday with a high near 52 degrees.
Remember actor Wesley Snipes, action star of the “Blade” trilogy, “White Men Can’t Jump,” and “Jungle Fever”? After haggling with revenue agents, criminal investigators and U.S. prosecutors for almost a decade, Snipes paid his back taxes to the tune of $5 million yesterday before being sentenced to prison. His motivation for not paying taxes since 1998? He said he was the victim of crooked advisers, a liability of wealth and celebrity that attracts “wolves and jackals like flies are attracted to meat.” The judge wasn’t totally convinced; Snipes still got three years.
