Nonprofit horticulture groups host plant sales as a way to raise money for their activities, including education and beautifying their surroundings. Here is a list of the sales that will be held around the Quad-City region this spring.
In upcoming issues of Home & Garden, we’ll list the sales for that week.

n Saturday, April 26: Master Gardeners, 8 a.m. until the plants are gone, behind the grocery store, Main Street, Prophetstown, Ill.

n Saturday, April 26: Rock Island Horticultural Club, 8 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the Longview Park garage, 17th Street and 18th Avenue, Rock Island.
Includes small, colorful rhododendrons, peonies, hostas and other perennials.
Proceeds will be split equally among the Quad-City Botanical Center, the Rock Island Parks and Recreation Department and the Horticultural Club.

n Saturday, May 3: Friends of Vander Veer, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., outside the conservatory at Vander Veer Botanical Park, Brady Street and West Central Park Avenue, Davenport.
Includes unusual, colorful annuals and tropicals for garden borders and containers, fuchsia baskets and a selection of the best perennials for your garden, both sun and shade. Also, ready-made mixed container gardens and native plants will be available.
Proceeds go to the Friends for use in their park restoration efforts.

n Saturday, May 3: Silvis (Ill.) Garden Club, 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m., McGhee Center, 12th Street and 4th Avenue, Silvis.
Includes perennials, annuals, vegetables and herbs.

n Sunday, May 4: Friends of Riverside Park plant sale, noon to 3 p.m. in the garden center at Riverside Park, 34th Street and 4th Avenue, Moline.
Includes perennials, shrubs, sedums, butterfly bushes, wildflowers, hostas, ground covers, seedlings, irises, rhubarb, cannas and houseplants, including geraniums and coleus.
Proceeds will go toward items for the new growing house.

Thursday-Sunday, May 8-11: Big Brothers-Big Sisters, 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. Thursday-Saturday; 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday at Northwest Bank, Welcome Way and Kimberly Road, Davenport.
Several types of plants (mostly annuals) will be sold. Plants that will be sold in flats of 46-54 for $15.50 or half-flats for $8 are: alyssums, begonias, coleuses, dahlias, pansies, impatiens, marigolds, moss roses, petunias, salvias, snapdragons, verbenas, lobelias and vegetables.
Hanging baskets are $16, and Wave petunias and geraniums will be sold for $1.50 each.
Plants may be pre-ordered by phone or online until Thursday, May 1, or purchased at the pick-up site from May 8-11. Orders totaling $150 or more will be delivered. There also will be sale and pickup locations in Sterling, Monmouth and Macomb, Ill.

Saturday, May 10: Rock Island County Master Gardeners, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the parking lot at the University of Illinois Extension office, 4550 Kennedy Drive, East Moline.
Master Gardeners will be on hand to answer questions, and raffle tickets will be sold.

Saturday, May 10: Jackson County Master Gardeners, 9 a.m. until the plants are gone, Jackson County Fairgrounds, Maquoketa, Iowa.

Sunday, May 11: Davenport Horticultural Society, 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., in the lodge, Duck Creek Park, Locust and Marlo streets, Davenport. Held in conjunction with the annual Mother’s Day open house at the Stampe Lilac Garden.
Includes the lilac cultivars “Sensation,” a purple flower with a white edge, “Primrose,” a yellow flower and a variety of dwarfs. There also will be plants dug from members’ gardens, including yarrows, burning bushes, raspberries, hostas, vincas, daylilies and lychnises. Also, tree peonies, peppers, ferns, daisies, herbs and tomatoes will be available.
Proceeds will be used for the ongoing refurbishing of the lilac garden.

Saturday, May 17: Cedar Valley Iris and Daylily Society, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Penn Meadows Park Gazebo, North Dubuque and East Cherry streets, North Liberty, Iowa.

Saturday, May 17-18: Clinton County Master Gardeners, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday; and 10 a.m. to noon Sunday, at the Clinton County Fairgrounds, 328 E. 8th St., DeWitt, Iowa.
Iowa State University Master Gardeners will sell perennials, annuals, some houseplants and herbs. Perennials include hostas, garden phlox, lilies of the valley, sedums and ornamental grasses.

Saturday-Sunday, May 17-18: Clinton County Master Gardeners, 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. both days, in conjunction with the Lyons Craft Sale in North Clinton, Iowa.
ISU Master Gardeners will sell all kinds of perennials, annuals, some houseplants and herbs. Perennials include hostas, garden phlox, lilies of the valley, sedums and ornamental grasses.

Saturday, May 31: ISU Extension Scott County Master Gardeners “Welcome Home To Our Garden” plant sale, 9 a.m. to 3 p.m., at the ISU Scott County Extension office, 875 Tanglefoot Lane, Bettendorf.
Plants include divisions from members’ own gardens, native plants and specially ordered unusual plants.
In addition, the Scott County Master Gardeners will give demonstrations and answer questions, and there will be a table with free or nominal-cost brochures.
Members of the public who donate plants to the sale will receive a $5-off coupon that can be used during the sale. To donate, please identify the plant on a piece of paper when you drop it off at the Extension office at one of these times: 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, May 24; or 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Wednesday-Friday, May 28-30.
