Davenport West protesters got it wrong

I am a student at West. The protest Friday against the day of silence was wrong. The day of silence is about people against hate crimes, not just against gays. It just so happens that the group that put on the event is GLBT (gays, lesbians, bisexuals, and transgender) and they were only trying to bring awareness that harassment and violence needs to stop.

This event is to stop harassment, hate crimes and other violence. So are the people who had signs against what this day is for?

We need to teach tolerance and those adults with the signs are not setting an example. That made gay students the victims, which the whole message of the day was not  to do.

Please be advised there are schools that they can send their children to if they want, but until then they can get over themselves.
