A rural Grand Mound, Iowa, man died early Sunday in a single-vehicle accident, according to the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.

John Sullivan, 48, was pronounced dead at the scene by the Clinton County medical examiner.

The accident happened shortly after 3 a.m. on 230th Avenue just south of 255th Street, south of Grand Mound, according to the sheriff’s office.

The vehicle apparently went off the road and entered the west ditch, where it struck an embankment, deputies said. Also assisting the sheriff’s office and the medical examiner was the Grand Mount Fire Department.

The accident remains under investigation by the Clinton County Sheriff’s Office.
