Firefighters from Bettendorf and Riverdale remained on the scene early today of a fire that began late Monday in the roof of the Sivyer Steel plant, 225 S. 33rd St., Bettendorf.
The fire was reported about 11:20 p.m. Monday, and firefighters who arrived on the scene minutes later quickly called for an aerial truck and other forms of assistance.
Firefighters were still on the scene about two hours after the blaze broke out. Further details were not immediately available.
Sivyer Steel is no stranger to fires. The business has been the scene of at least four fires in the past decade, including one in the roof that caused an estimated $50,000 damage in July 2000.
