WAPELLO, Iowa — Park improvements, including a brick-paving fundraising effort, are being discussed by the Wapello City Council.

A recent $1,500 grant was used to purchase a handicapped-accessible drinking fountain, Kevin Hardin, the council’s representative to the park board, said.

The council approved a plan to install inscribed bricks around the fountain. Residents would be asked to donate $50 for each brick. Hardin said the money could be used to fund other park improvements.

In addition to the brick-paving effort, the council also reviewed plans to install new lighting and discussed a possible annual fee to use the city’s camper dump station.

The council approved an increase in camping fees at the Wapello Fairground’s campground.

In other action at Tuesday’s meeting, the council approved installing two stop signs at the corner of South Main and Vernon streets and approved a $74,544 seal-coating program for the city.
