During the past several months, the American people have been bombarded with publicity over digital television. I’m opposed to digital for three reasons.
Nearly all of the converters and digital TV sets are made in China, a nation that we already have a trade deficit with. Furthermore, China has a deplorable human rights record, as well as safety issues with products ranging from pet food to tires.
Most of the obsolete television sets will end up in our already overtaxed landfills.
While there has been great progress in broadcast technology, we are going backward in what we broadcast. If you’ve seen the local TV listings, you’ll know what I mean.
Right now, I’m trying to decide if I should give in to government blackmail or finally get smart and do away with TV in my household.
