The sixth annual Miles for Melanoma 5K Walk will be Saturday, May 10, on the campus of Augustana College in Rock Island.
The walk begins at 9 a.m. at the Carver Physical Education Center, 639 38th St. The scenic course winds through the campus. The event also includes a raffle, auction and skin screening information. The cost is $20 for adults, $12 for youth 18 years and younger.
The walk honors Deb Sandry, a Quad-City resident who died of melanoma March 1, 2002, at the age of 40. Diagnosed in 1994, she fought bravely, aggressively and positively. She was an advocate for prevention and early diagnosis, as well as stepped-up research in search of a cure. The walk was established to help carry on her fight.
