Area man sentenced for drug charge

A 41-year-old Muscatine man has been sentenced to more that 12 years in a federal prison after pleading guilty to trafficking methamphetamine, according to a news release issued by the U.S. Department of Justice, Southern District of Iowa.
Victor Manuel Marin was sentenced to 12 years and seven months in prison Monday in U.S. District Court, Davenport, after pleading guilty to one count of conspiracy to distribute methamphetamine.
According to the charges, Marin sold methamphetamine to an undercover agent on six occasions between March 1 and March 20, 2007. The total amount of methamphetamine distributed during the conspiracy was 634.15 grams.
There is no parole in the federal prison system. Marin also must serve five years on supervised release after he completes his term in prison.
