MUSCATINE, Iowa — The Muscatine Quarterback Club Committee is looking for a new volunteer group to organize Muscatine’s Great River Days Reunion.

After this year’s event, the club will no longer coordinate the community celebration as it has the last 13 years.

“It’s been a celebrated event for right at 50 years, and we are hoping that an interested group will come forward to take it on and bring new ideas,” said Kerry Keller, Muscatine Quarterback Club president.

Great River Days Reunion will be celebrated July 23-27.

The club has been involved with Great River Days for more than 40 years as a vendor, activity sponsor and overall event coordinator.

Proceeds from the annual event have been contributed to the athletic and physical education budgets for Muscatine, Louisa-Muscatine, and Wilton schools. More than $250,000 has been given to Muscatine Community School District activities.

This year’s event will feature the Des Moines-based band GTO (Good Time Oldies) as the Saturday night entertainment. A complete schedule will be released soon.

Keller said the event is a huge undertaking.

“It’s 12 months of work. When we closed out 2007 Great River Days, we started planning the 2008 schedule,” he said.

Any organization interested in coordinating the event is asked to contact Kerry Keller at (563) 571-0155 or (563) 263-3084 or Al Church at (563) 299-2892.

Melissa Regennitter can be contacted at (563) 263-2331, Ext. 317, or mregennitter@muscatinejournal.com.

I plan to eat out at a local restaurant.
