Tickling Nan's keys

I went to Nan’s Piano Bar on Friday night and it was filled with a standing room only crowd of people of all ages. Most people were singing along with the piano player as he performed everything from “Bohemian Rhapsody” to “Bennie and the Jets” to “Baby Got Back.”

Matt McDermott and his friends were singing along with the piano player at the top of their lungs. McDermott has been to a piano bar in Chicago before and said besides being a little smaller, Nan’s Piano Bar is on par with big city entertainment and plans to come back.

“Especially for the dueling pianos. We'll be back for that,” McDermott said.

What did everyone else think of Nan’s Piano Bar? Will you be heading back?

An introduction to ComedySportz

I also saw ComedySportz last Friday so I could write a story on it for the May 1, edition of Go & Do.

I’ve been in the Quad-Cities for five years now and while I knew what ComedySportz was, I had never gotten around to going to a show.

Apparently there are several others in the Quad-Cities just like me.

“The fascinating thing about ComedySportz is I’ve been doing this for 14, 15 years and every night we usually ask, ‘How many people have never seen ComedySportz before?’” said Jeff De Leon, ComedySportz artistic director and performer. “And a third to half of the crowd’s hands go up. It’s like, we’ve been here since 1990. Where have you all been?”

The four time ComedySportz Champions didn’t disappoint. The improve show was hilarious, appropriate for the whole family and at $10 a ticket for prepaid reservations, the whole family can afford to go as well.

The next time my parents are in town visiting I’m definitely going to suggest that we go see ComedySportz.
