DES MOINES — LaMetta Wynn has a new civic role after her retirement as Clinton mayor last year.

On Wednesday, she attended her first State Board of Education meeting as one of the board’s newest members.

Before serving 12 years as mayor, Wynn spent 12 years on the Clinton Community School Board and also served on the board of Mount St. Clare College (now Ashford University). She also will serve as the chair of the hospital board in Clinton next year. Wynn, a retired nurse, has 10 children — nine daughters and one son — who have graduated from Clinton High School and gone on to college.

Other newly appointed members are Joan Jaimes of Marshalltown and Valorie Kruse of Sioux City.

The board also elected Clear Lake resident Rosie Hussey as its president and Des Moines resident Charles C. Edwards Jr. as vice president.
