COLUMBUS, JCT., Iowa — Even though two of three achievement goals were reached by Columbus School District students, the district will not know until this fall if other student scores were high enough to keep the district off any federal watch lists.
Officials said the district goals to increase reading proficiency of sixth-grade students and math proficiency of English Limited Language students in grade 6 to 8 were both met this year. However, Iowa Test of Basic Skills scores for eighth-grade ELL students in science fell when compared to last year’s proficiency score.
Officials said a complete report, including whether the district will be placed on a federal watch list, would be presented to the school board in the fall.
In final action, the board hired a technology specialist and accepted the resignation of middle school principal Chris Hoover, who has accepted a position in the Greenfield School District.
