The Scott County Board of Supervisors will interview five county administrator candidates today, followed by two on Tuesday to replace Ray Wierson who is retiring.

Each candidate will be interviewed for an hour and 20 minutes and also be provided a tour of the county, human resources director Mary Thee said.

Wierson is retiring at the end of the year, and the board hopes to have someone work side-by-side with the county administrator and also be involved in the hiring of a budget director.

The names of two or three finalists likely will be released next week after the final interviews are completed.

“There is a relatively good slate of candidates,” Scott County Board Chairman Jim Hancock said. “They all have their strengths.”

Candidates’ interpersonal skills and their ability to implement policies are areas Hancock said he will look at closely.

Board members are part of a recruitment team that includes members of the public, elected officials and department heads.

At its meeting Thursday, the board approved a request by the city of Long Grove to include 41.5 unincorporated acres into an urban renewal area the city is creating. The property is on the south boundary of Long Grove and the west side of 162nd Avenue.

The board also approved an intergovernmental agreement with Blue Grass that would evenly split the costs of resurfacing Oak Lane. The project will cost $130,390, with Blue Grass deferring payments on its half until 2011.
