If for no other reason you should consider biking more and driving less because it can save you a lot of cash. Do the math. How much do you spend on gas, oil and brakes? What about insurance?

AAA reported in 2007 that owning a car costs $8,000 per year on average. You can even use the “True Cost To Own” calculator at edmunds.com to examine your annual tally.

It was two years ago my wife and I minimized to one car. We considered all the pros and cons knowing it would take a big commitment from each of us.

The pros were overwhelming. Possibly the greatest motivator was that we stood to gain $6,500 per year based on our car and driving habits.

Now that’s an argument you can take to the bank.
