Class 2A


Davenport Central’s Mitch Beckert cruised through the singles bracket at the Iowa Class 2A disrtict meet Thursday.

Beckert, who also was considering playing doubles at the meet at Pleasant Valley, defeated Clinton’s Jan Wecker 6-0, 6-0 in the championship to earn a spot at the Class 2A state tournament. Wecker also advances to the state tournament.

Beckert lost only two games during his three matches, beating Pleasant Valley’s Andrew Hartman 6-0, 6-0 and Davenport West’s Corey James 6-2, 6-0.

In doubles, Clinton’s Elliott Deering and Josh Lawrence defeated teammates Stephen McEleney and Drew Lakin 6-1, 6-1.

Both teams earn a spot at the state tournament.

Clinton won the team title with 27 points, while Davenport Central (21 points) was second.

Clinton earns an automatic bid to the substate round. The Blue Devils advance to Saturday’s preliminary substate round.

At Muscatine

Bettendorf’s Adam and David DeSimone earned a trip to the state tournament after advancing to the doubles championship match.

The DeSimones lost to Iowa City West’s Madison Adams and Chris Ates 6-1, 6-4.

The Bulldogs finished second in the team race, securing a spot in Saturday’s preliminary substate round.

Iowa City West defeated the Bulldogs 28-23.

Class 1A

At Dubuque

Camanche’s Nate Lambert and Trevor Mink secured a spot in the state tournament after getting to the championship match in doubles.

The Camanche pair was upended by Dubuque Wahlert’s Brooks Bertsch and Carter Geise 6-3, 6-2.

Camanche finished second in the team race with 17 points, while Assumption was third (12 points).

Dubuque Wahlert won with 30 points.
