Paige Arthur knows her individual success in soccer is owed, at least in part, to her North Scott teammates and opponents, and she doesn’t hesitate to give them credit.

Their help has allowed her to achieve a goal of playing NCAA Division I soccer in the fall for Missouri State in Springfield, Mo.

“I’d like to thank my coaches and team; without them I wouldn’t be able to do this,” Arthur said. “We definitely have a lot of talent in our conference, and that has been great.”

Missouri State has held a special place in Arthur’s heart for a while.

“My junior year, I went for a visit and kept in contact with the coaches,” said Arthur, who plans to study pre-law at the school. “I love the school, I love the atmosphere, I love the coaches.”

The Bears, who went 6-11-2 last fall, are coached by Rob Brewer. He is the only coach the school has had in women’s soccer, and his teams have compiled a 112-103-25 record in 12 seasons.

“They’re pretty young — only three seniors graduate — and it’s a really fun team.”

Arthur was part of a young team at North Scott that has grown together during her career and made its first trip to the state tournament last spring. Arthur has been a key part of that success.

“I like to think of myself as a leader,” she said. “I like moving the ball, and I love finishing shots and being right there in the action. I’m offensive-minded is what Coach is always telling me.”
