The American Red Cross will benefit when WQAD-TV anchor Jim Mertens heads to the station’s roof Wednesday to raise funds for the agency.

The station will track pledges by ZIP code as Mertens conducts live interviews on the roof.

In addition, stories about Muscatine volunteer Mike Phillips after the Fruitland, Iowa, tornado and Quad-City volunteer Joyce Shoemaker’s response to Mansur Woods apartment fire will be shown. The rooftop broadcasts have raised $1,700 twice before.
