Promoting local music is the goal of the fourth Fillmore Fest, which will feature 16 local bands and one Seattle group whose drummer is a Quad-City native.

“We want to get a large crowd of people together in one place and support the local music scene,” said David Craig, the Fillmore Fest promoter. “It’s quite a rush for any band to play in front of 200, 300 people, and they have a really good time doing that.”

Craig wants to take the audience at Fillmore Fest back to the ’60s and ’70s, when, he said, going to see bands, well-known or not, was a part of the culture.

“People met friends there; people met husbands, wives there,” he said. “And it really sort of formed a community through the music.”

The 17 bands scheduled to perform at Fillmore Fest and the after-party at Rockin’ Ham Bar and Grill, play a mixture of hard rock, metal, rockabilly and alternative music.

As the festival continues, Craig would like to see it expand to include rap, hip-hop country and soft rock.

“I’d like to see a festival in which, as long as it’s local, area music, no matter what the genre is, everybody is playing together,” he said. “Because I know a lot of these bands play metal or they play all rock or they play rockabilly, but they have tastes in all different music genres.”

The Fillmore Fest will run from 3 to 11 p.m. on the corner of West 3rd and Fillmore streets, Davenport. The after-party begins at 11 p.m. at The Rockin’ Ham Bar and Grill, 1334 W. 2nd St., Davenport, and will run until 2 a.m., or closing time.

Tickets are $7 at the gate, and a ticket to Fillmore Fest also will get attendees 21 years and older into the after-party at Rockin’ Ham Bar and Grill.
