SHERRARD, Ill. — A new superintendent will begin her job this week in the Sherrard School District.

Rebecca Rodocker was hired by the Sherrard Board of Education in February.

“They have a very good reputation in terms of curriculum and things that they do for kids,” she said. “I’m always appreciative for a district when they’re looking at what’s best for children.”

Rodocker had been superintendent of the West Liberty School District in Iowa since 2001. She replaces Robert Gillum, who resigned at the end of last summer to accept a similar position in Chatham, Ill.

“Sherrard has a great sports program,” Rodocker said. “I think sports and extracurriculur activities are essential for students and student growth.“

Rodocker received her bachelor’s degree from the University of Michigan, administrative degree from California State University and an education specialist degree from Western Illinois University.

“I like the fact that it’s an expanding district,” Rodocker said. “With the expansion of the Milan Beltway, it certainly gives more accessibility to the Quad-Cities.“

Retired administrators Dick Stoltz and Rene Noppe served as interim superintendents during the  school year.

Students return to class July 30.
