U of Iowa flood damage at $75M and growing

IOWA CITY — University of Iowa officials are looking toward this fall as school officials continue assessing flood damage that is expected to top $75 million.
University spokesman Steve Parrott says that estimate will likely go much higher.
Flooding damaged as many as 20 university buildings, with the worst problems on the school's arts campus. The university's track, softball fields and tunnel system also were damaged.
The university has hired two companies to help conduct hazardous material analysis and dry out the buildings.
Because some buildings won't be ready for the start of fall semester on Aug. 25, the school has begun leasing space elsewhere in Iowa City.
