With the exception of a flood-forced change in location, the 14th annual Sturgis on the River will go on as planned from Thursday, June 12 through Saturday, June 14 at the Mississippi Valley Fairgrounds, Davenport.
“The only change is that you’re not going to be able to look out at the Mississippi River,” said co-producer C.J. Rohm. “It’s going to be the same way we were going to set it up down at the event site, and everything’s going off as usual.”
Brett “Big Schwag” Wagner, formerly a regular on Discovery Channel’s “Monster Garage” and now host of Speed TV’s “Pass Time,” will return to the event. An ultimate fighting contest will take place Saturday night.
New this year is a Saturday classic car show, sponsored by Dwyer & Michaels of WXLP-FM 96.9 (“97X”), and the National Guard “Patriot Chopper,” created by famed motorcycle factory Orange County Choppers.
A previously announced “Ball of Steel Stunt Show” has been canceled because a couple of the riders were injured and the show was disbanded, Rohm said.
The location of the show was changed on Tuesday, with rising waters on the Mississippi making the show impossible to continue on the riverfront.
“We’re very lucky to have the people in the Quad-Cities,” she said. “People have called and tried to help and we’re grateful for everyone’s help.”
