If MySpace was taken off of the Internet tomorrow, I’m not quite sure how I’d do my job. The Web site has been very helpful in getting in touch with local bands.

On my profile, which I created specifically to help with my beat, I wrote that if you see a brunette with a camera out and about in the Quad-Cities, it most likely is me.

But last Saturday another brunette with a camera was mistaken for a Quad-City Times reporter. I sent a friend request to August Zimbal, a Davenport band that performed at Fillmore Fest earlier this month when I was writing a preview for the show.

August Zimbal’s lead singer and guitar player, Burnell Eckardt, then saw a brunette with a video camera who looked like my MySpace picture while playing at Rookies in Davenport. He had the wrong brunette that time, but we met when the band played at Stickman’s in Davenport later in the day.

Eckardt warned me not to be scared off by the first two songs of the band’s set. “ADHD” and “Scream” are intense and serve as the band’s warmup before continuing with the show. Check out the video to see excerpts from August Zimbal’s show and Exhardt’s MySpace plug.
