Recently my brother, Gene P. Hardy, passed away unexpectedly. As a 21-year veteran of the Davenport Police Department, who retired from a disability incurred on duty, he was accorded the presence of the Davenport Police Honor Guard at his wake and an escort from the funeral home, past the new police station, and back to the cemetery.
I know his family in Davenport and his family and friends from across the nation were deeply appreciative for this honor. Gene was always proud of his service to your community and would have been deeply honored by this show of respect.
Your police department should be commended for their commitment to their officers and families.
