Three people charged in connection with the beating death of a Sterling, Ill., man will face court dates within the next few weeks.
Jenna Henson, 20, of Sterling and Eric A. Smith, 21, of Rock Falls, Ill., have been charged with obstructing justice by concealing clothes worn by Nicholas Sheley when police believe Sheley killed Russell Reed, 93, of rural Sterling. Reed’s body was found in the trunk of his car on June 26.
Sheley, 28, has been charged with murder in the deaths of Reed and Ronald Randall, 65, of Galesburg, Ill. He is a suspect in the deaths of Brock Branson, 29, Kenneth Ulve Jr., 25, Kilynna Blake, 20, and her 2-year-old son, Dayan, all of whom were found beaten to death June 30 in a Rock Falls apartment, and in the deaths of Tom and Jill Estes of Sherwood, Ark., who were killed not far from their hotel in Festus, Mo., south of St. Louis.
Smith also has been charged with being an armed habitual criminal and two counts of being a felon in possession of a firearm, according to court records.
Henson is the girlfriend of Sheley’s brother, Joshua, who has been charged with obstructing justice and concealing a homicide
Henson’s preliminary hearing has been scheduled for Aug. 1, while preliminary hearings for Smith and Joshua Sheley will be held July 18. Henson has been released on bond, while Joshua Sheley and Smith remain in custody in Whiteside County.
Nicholas Sheley is being held in the Knox County Jail on
$1 million bail and will make his next court appearance July 21.
No information is yet available on when Sheley could return to Whiteside County to face charges there, said Natalie Bauer of the Illinois Attorney General’s office.
