One man who fled from Davenport police on foot was detained for questioning after a short standoff with officers today in the 1300 block of West 14th Street.

Just before 5 p.m., Davenport police responded to a call about a person selling drugs in the 1300 block of 13th Street, police said. The man saw police and fled on foot northbound through the ally, and ran into 1312 W. 14th St. where he allegedly barricaded himself inside.

Police said there was concern about the safety of a toddler who was inside the house with his babysitter.

Police said the man ran into the house because that’s where his girlfriend lives.

Police said they had to kick in the back door to take the man into custody. The standoff lasted about 20 minutes as officers planned their tactics to enter the home.

A woman in the house, allegedly the man’s girlfriend, also was taken in for questioning, while another woman at the house was also being interviewed by police.

Neither the child nor anyone else was injured.

Charges are pending against the man whose name will be released later tonight.
