Good morning, Quad-Cities.  At 6 a.m. it’s 69 degrees with a few clouds in the Quad-Cities — great golf weather. Some might even say Classic golf weather.  According to the National Weather Service, today will be partly cloudy with a high near 87 degrees. There is a 30 percent chance of showers and thunderstorms, mainly after 1 p.m. Tonight there is a slight chance of rain with a low around 70 degrees.

The John Deere Classic tees off  at 7 a.m. at TPC at Deere Run in Silvis. There is no spectator parking at Deere Run, but shuttle buses will take fans to the main gate from three remote locations from 6 a.m. to 11 p.m. They are: Bettendorf High School, 3333 18th St.; Quad-City Downs, East Moline; and the Rock Island County Fairgrounds, Archer Avenue and Avenue of the Cities, East Moline for VIP. Free live music after the round will be provided by the Gray Wolf Band.

For regular updates of all of the action at the JDC,  click on qctimes.com, the Deere Dairy blog  or qctimes.com/jdc. You can take a tour of Deere Run’s 18-hole layout on an interactive course map, test your knowledge about the golf tournament, or vote who you think will win. Plus you can view daily photo galleries and videos.

Classic Times, a special four-page wrap around the regular print Times Sports section, will provide an in-depth look at the tournament every day, beginning  today and continuing through Monday.

A big 10-4 good buddy

The John Deere Classic is not the only game in town this week. The big 29th Truckers Jamboree gets rollin’ today and Friday at the Iowa 80 Truckstop in Walcott. More than 200 exhibits/exhibitors for the entire family will be on hand including a super truck beauty contest, an antique truck display, Iowa pork chop cookout, trucker’s best friend pet contest, trucker olympics, carnival games, live bands and fireworks.

During this year’s event, Iowa 80 Truckstop will be celebrating the completion of the new Trucking Museum Visitor’s Center. The ribbon-cutting will be at 2 p.m.

Area law agencies step up enforcement along U.S. 30

Iowa law enforcement agencies will be targeting U.S. 30 in Cedar and Clinton counties beginning next week during a special enforcement effort designed to reduce accident related injuries and deaths on two major state highways and their adjacent roadways. According to the Iowa State Patrol, officers will be targeting those violations that present the greatest risk of accidents which include, but are not limited to: impaired driving, safety belt and child safety seat violations, stop sign and stop light violations, excessive speed and aggressive driving.

Road work/detours

• Be careful this morning if you take Davenport’s 3rd Street, the one-way for eastbound traffic coming into the downtown area. It’s down to one lane near Sturdevant Street for road work.

• Check for area closings and closings across Iowa and Illinois before you head out this morning. And check out our gas-price guide for the cheapest prices at the pumps in the Quad-Cities.

The race for Bix

The Quad-City Times Bix 7 road race is fast approaching. This year’s race will be July 26. You can register online at bix7.com.

One in 10 Americans will celebrate Thanksgiving Day at a restaurant and more than half will purchase restaurant-prepared takeout items. And the cost is up for those doing it all at home. What are you doing this year?
I am hosting Thanksgiving at my house.
I will be a guest at someone’s home.
I plan to eat out at a local restaurant.
