A federal grand jury returned drug and gun charges Tuesday against a
26-year-old Rock Island man, alleging he was trafficking crack cocaine and possessed a gun while doing so.
The indictment alleges that Terasence Steven Mitten possessed at least five grams of crack cocaine on July 1 and that he was attempting to sell the drug.
At that time, Mitten allegedly had in his possession a Hipoint Arms 9-mm pistol.
If convicted for the drug offense, Mitten faces a mandatory prison sentence of 10 to 40 years. The firearm offense carries a mandatory sentence of five years to life, which must be served consecutive to any sentence imposed for the drug charge.
The case was investigated by the Rock Island Police Department, Moline Police Department and Quad-Cities Gang Task Force.
