A presidential candidate won’t be greeting bicyclists in LeClaire at the end of RAGBRAI on July 26.

Presumptive Republican presidential nominee John McCain was invited to the event by LeClaire organizers, but the Arizona senator’s campaign says he will be unable to attend.

LeClaire will hold a closing ceremony with a salute to veterans, featuring a military band and local American Legion members, at 1 p.m. July 26.

Extra security measures were built into the event’s planning in case the Arizona senator was able to attend, said Pam Ellis, LeClaire RAGBRAI committee chairman.
