Russ Parmenter, Milan, Ill., hopes to use a belated 80th birthday celebration to grow an endowment fund in memory of his grandson, Dan Parmenter, a victim of the February shooting at Northern Illinois University.

Friends and the public are invited to enjoy music, dance and light dessert from 7:30 to 11 p.m. July 30 at Milan Community Center, Milan, Ill. In lieu of cards and gifts, donations will be accepted for Dan Parmenter Endowment Fund, which was established at NIU’s College of Business.
