Woman killed when struck by train in Kewanee

A woman who was not identified late Sunday was killed when she apparently was struck by a train, according to Kewanee, Ill., police.

The incident happened shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday at the North Main Street railroad crossing in Kewanee, police said.

Emergency crews found a woman just east of the crossing, where she later was pronounced dead by Henry County Coroner David Johnson.

Her name was withheld pending notification of relatives. The coroner’s office will release any additional information about the woman’s identity, police said.

Anyone who might have seen the incident is asked to contact the Kewanee Police Deaprtment at (309) 853-1911. The Kewanee Fire Department and the Henry County Coroner’s Office assisted the Kewanee Police Department at the scene.
