While some Quad-City media outlets went off the air because of the early morning storm, others went through makeshift means to keep news on the air.
KWQC-TV6 and WQAD-TV8 each continued their morning shows into the day, replacing network programming. KWQC anchors Mike Mickle and Jessica Tighe remained in their studio, dimly lit, while WQAD anchors Jim Mertens and Julie Sisk used the window for the station’s back door as their light.
WQPT-TV 24, located at Black Hawk College, also was without power.
In radio, Cumulus Broadcasting stations (WXLP-FM 96.9, KBEA-FM 99.7, KBOB-FM 104.9, KQCS-FM 93.5 and KJOC-AM 1170) were without power, as was Augustana College NPR outlet WVIK-FM 90.3.
Christian radio stations WAXR-FM 88.1 and WDLM-FM 89.3 were knocked off the air.
The Muscatine Journal, a Lee Enterprises newspaper, lost power. Editors worked from the newsroom of the Quad-City Times.
