SHOW TO SEE: The Dutchess and the Duke, a duo comprised of longtime friends Kimberly Morrison and Jesse Lortz, began making music with another band in 2002. When that band broke up, Morrison and Lortz combined their voices to create warm harmonies and released their first single as The Dutchess and the Duke in 2007. Their album, “She’s the Dutchess, He’s the Duke,” came out earlier this month.
The Dutchess and the Duke will perform with The Prairie Spies at 7 p.m. Friday, July 18, at Huckleberry’s Pizza Parlor, 223 18th St., Rock Island. Cover is $5 in advance and $6 at the door. For more information, visit daytrotter.com on the Web.
FOR THE FAMILY: The River Music Experience, or RME, is putting on its second Third Thursday summer concert series this evening, and Iowa City reggae group Public Property will perform. Admission is $3, and children 12 years and younger will be admitted for free. A cash bar will be available. The concert begins at 6 p.m. in the courtyard next to the RME at the foot of the skybridge in downtown Davenport.
In case of rain, the concert will be held in the Mojo’s Cafe, located on the first floor of the RME.
HE SAID WHAT?: The founding member of Chrash, Chris Bernat, said the band has always been himself and whoever he could get to play and record along with him.
The latest member to join the 10-year-old band is Eric Stone. Bernat has known him for years, but he didn’t realize how well Stone could play until a friend suggested he bring Stone into the group. But good musicianship wasn’t all that Bernat was looking for. “The first requirement was it had to be someone that we could hang out with and have a good time with. And, as a bonus, he’s actually a pretty good player, too.”
FOR TEENS: Energy, the Moline nightclub for teens, will host its first Junior High Night on Friday, July 18. The alcohol-free club will open its doors to 11- to 14-year-olds only. Gamestop will run an NCAA 2009 video game tournament in the club’s gaming area. Energy is open 7-11:30 p.m. and located at 1405 5th Ave., Moline. Cover is $10.
Beginning next weekend, Energy will be open to teens only on Saturday nights and will raise the cover to $12. The club will be available for private parties on Friday evenings.
