Free special collection of limbs and branches will start Monday in Rock Island.
Residents are asked to set out debris by 7 a.m. on their normal refuse collection day in their regular garbage pickup location or near the curb. Limbs do not need to be trimmed or bundled. It may take a few weeks to collect all debris.
Residents also can take trees and limbs to a free special dropoff location on 31st Avenue near 1st Street, just west of Ted's Boatarama. Residents are asked to take trees and limbs to this location instead of the city's yard waste drop-off center. From the south, take Illinois 92 to the 31st Avenue exit and head east. From central Rock Island or the north, take 18th Avenue west through Sunset Park on Sunset Lane to 31st Avenue.
Rock Island residents can dispose of spoiled food at a special dropoff location at Public Works, 1309 Mill St. Dumpsters are open now through midnight Friday. The city's refuse drop-off center will be open normal hours 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday at Public Works, 1309 Mill St. Both are free services.
